Syncline Valley

Syncline Valley is located on a loop trail in Island in the Sky, Canyonlands.  Jim and I didn’t feel that energetic, so we had planned to only go down the trail for a couple hours, then turn around.  But the long descent was seductive, and before we knew it, we had descended 1500’.  We kept wondering what was after the next hill or around the next bend.  You know how that goes!  Suddenly it was nearly as far back as it was to make the whole loop.  Rather than go back up the steep way we had descended, we decided to take the more gradual, but longer conclusion of the loop.  When we reached Syncline Valley, I really fell in love with this wonderful rock formation with the fall leaves glistening in the late afternoon light.   We now barely had enough time before dark, but by really pushing it, we managed to reach the car in the last minutes of twilight.
